McDonnell Bros was established on 1st January 1977 as a small seed and Agrochemical company by brothers Denis & John McDonnell. Over the next 5 years the business gradually branched into animal feeds and fertilizers, polythene and grain buying and processing including assembling Malting Barley for the then Malting Company of Ireland.

It began manufacturing animal feeds in 1982 and it gradually grew from an initial turnover of ½ million to being a sizeable agricultural merchant. It acquired its base in Saleen, Midleton in 1988, Glanworth in 1992, Castletownroche in 2019 and Castleisland in 2022.

Animal feeds, fertilisers and grain buying became more important for the company as time went on. Today  McDonnell Bros is a significant player in these markets and is one of the biggest independent Agri suppliers in Munster with a base of over 3000 farmer customers. The company prides itself on good service, integrity with customers and suppliers and competitiveness.
